Flip, Flap, Fly!: A Book for Babies Everywhere
by Phyllis Root, illustrated by David Walker
Ages 1-3 32 pages Candlewick February 2011 Board book

This colorful board book celebrating spring features a collection of animal babies who venture forth with their mothers to explore their new environments, enjoying their new freedom as they learn to fly, swim, wiggle and slide with their mothers’ help.

The most exciting thing they do is discover other babies engaged in similar activities. The little bird flying over a pond sees a little fish below. The little fish spots a baby snake on the shoreline, and on it goes.

Your toddler will have fun watching these critters flip and flap, splish and splash, and sloop, slop and slide their way from one page to another. As you read the book together, here’s also an excellent way to begin animal identification (where’s the little bird?).
