by Maxwell Eaton
Ages 7-10 96 pages Knopf January 2012 Paperback

It’s going to be difficult for Ace to win the Beaver Island surfing competition. His board has been stolen, his opponent Bruce is planning to sabotage the race, and the water they will be surfing is in danger of being frozen by a group of penguins who are tired of the heat.

Ace’s brother, Bub, would have napped through the whole incident, but he’s awakened by the loud KA-KAH of two penguins who would rather learn to surf than follow orders to freeze the island.

The easy-to-follow dialogue in this graphic novel contains sound effects and humorous quips. As the brothers move around on the island in fun ways, readers will get different views of their home.

Eaton’s pen and ink illustrations are digitally colored with a blue color scheme. This fits nicely with the play on words about blueprints. This humorous series can be enjoyed by boys and girls looking for new comics to read.
