Grades 1-2 61 cards Chronicle June 2007 Card deck

Kids who are fans of sharks or eager to learn more about them will adore this pocket-sized deck of cards, packed with an abundance of shark knowledge. Each card provides a photo and some trivia about one of twelve specific types of sharks, ranging from the tasseled wobbegong to the nurse shark to the great white. For example, great white sharks often eat their serrated teeth along with their prey, since they often break off as the attack occurs. The tasseled wobbegong produces eggs that grow and hatch inside their bodies, and the mating ritual for hammerhead sharks consists of males biting the females until they succumb to their advances.

What is great about these cards is that, aside from being a source of knowledge, they are also conducive to playing four popular games: Go Fish, Concentration, Gin Rummy, and Crazy Eights. The fact that this deck of cards is pocket-sized and can be used for a multitude of purposes makes it an inviting activity for children to enjoy for an hour, an afternoon, or even a lengthy car ride.
