“In the cold gray tomb
There was a gravestone
And a black lagoon
And a picture of-
Martians taking over the moon…”
Thus begins this amusing parody of Margaret Wise Brown’s children’s classic Goodnight Moon. In a cold gray tomb, a small werewolf is getting ready for bed and preparing to say good night when in comes the goon, who proceeds to trash everything in sight. How will the little werewolf finally calm the goon and banish him to his rightful place under the bed?
Author-illustrator Michael Rex decided that Goodnight Moon was “severely lacking” in “big-toothed monsters and small creatures in peril” and created this witty send-up in response. Small children who are just beginning to outgrow Goodnight Moon (and have memorized every line) will delight in this new book that mimics the cadence of the classic work. The colorful, dynamic artwork with all the monstrous detail is sure to keep little ones engaged through many readings.
Goodnight Goon: A Petrifying Parody also has all the makings of a Halloween classic. It has claws, jaws, skulls, bones and werewolves aplenty to satisfy even the most ardent Halloween enthusiast.
