Gossie & Gertie
by Olivier Dunrea
Baby-preschool 16 pages Houghton Mifflin February 2007 Board book

Gossie and Gertie are best friends: “Gossie wears bright red boots. Gertie wears bright blue boots.” They do many things together: they splash in the rain, play hide and seek in the daisies, dive in the pond, and watch in the night.

Gossie and Gertie go everywhere together. “‘Follow me!’ cried Gossie. Gossie marched to the barn. Gertie followed.” Together they check out a sheep.

“‘Follow me!’ cried Gossie. Gossie jumped into a mud puddle. Gertie did not follow.”

Gossie tries again - “Follow me!” - but Gertie follows a hopping frog. Gossie tries again to no avail as Gertie follows a butterfly. She tries again and again. Suddenly, following a grain trail, Gertie says “Follow me! It’s dinnertime!” Gossie follows, and together they eat their dinner in their red and blue boots.

Gossie and Gertie is a lovable tale of two goslings enjoying their best friendship. With adorable pictures and a simple-to-follow, quick, repetitive storyline, little listeners will be fully engaged and looking for more. The good news is Gossie has plenty of friends highlighted in many other stories in the “Gossie” collection.
