It should come as no surprise that little ones will love this book (published by PBS Kids) since it introduces them to counting within the context of making a birthday cake.

As the characters prepare the dessert, they combine such ingredients as one cup of sugar, four ounces of buttermilk, five boxes of raisins and nine tablespoons of jelly. The end result: ten perfectly delicious slices of birthday cake, which is sufficient to include all the guests in the celebration.

The Great Cake combines simple text, cheery illustrations and a birthday theme - a recipe for a book that children will devour.
