How to Read a Story
by Kate Messner, illustrated by Mark Siegel
Grades K-2 32 pages Chronicle May 2015 Hardcover

Step one: find a story.

It does not seem like an outline of how to read a story would be that much fun. Fortunately, Kate Messner and Mark Siegel have some fun with the concept and deliver a lighthearted “how-to” for kids with How to Read a Story.

The tips are quite helpful. Find a reading buddy. Use character voices. Look up words you don’t know. All good tips for developing readers.

Of course, the best part of the book is how it celebrates the magic of reading. Stories are wonderful. Characters are colorful. Adventure is exciting. And you can always go back and start the book all over again when it’s complete.
