When Hugo comes across a red string, he decides to find out where it leads. He ends up following the string through the entire town, and along the way he meets up with a number of people who decide to join him on his journey.
The path is full of many surprises as he moves through some trees, across a river, down a hole, even through a noodle shop and a large pot of spaghetti. Even though Hugo may not be particularly pleased with what he finds at the ends of his travels, he does learn a few simple lessons that seem to have made the trip a rewarding experience after all.
Hugo and the Really, Really, Really Long String is a sweet story, and its illustrations add to its charm. This comes as no surprise: author Bob Boyle is the creator of the readily identifiable characters on the Wow! Wow! Wubbzy! cartoon program that has its legions of Nickelodeon fans. This picture book’s plot will keep the attention of its readers, along with the added bonus of teaching a simple but valuable lesson with universal appeal.
