Hide and Seek: In the Jungle
by Sean Callery, illustrated by Rebecca Robinson
Ages 1-4 12 pages Kingfisher April 2010 Board book

This series of books combines the fun of paying hide-and-seek with read-aloud time. The focus here is on four inhabitants of the jungle. Each two-page spread includes a few narrative clues ("My stripes help me hide in the tall grass") and one, two or three die-cut peepholes that show the youngster just a bit of the hidden creature.

After the child guesses what is "hidden" in the dense jungle, he or she can open the large flaps and see the animal, reptile or bird in all its colorful splendor. This simple board book not only engages the youngster intellectually and physically but will also make the child familiar with a few of the creatures that can be found in this exotic environment.

Creative parents can also broaden this "game book" by asking which animal has stripes or what has a tough and scaly skin.
