The Awful Pawful is fifth in the six books to date comprising the "Jack Russell: Dog Detective" series.
These entertaining children’s pocket-sized paperbacks from Kane Miller,
co-written by Darrel and Sally Odgers, teach children about the mindset of dogs and the art of deduction.
Jack Russell, the neighborhood dog detective, lives in
Doggeroo with a man named Sarge. Foxie lives with her human
companion, Auntie Tidge, next door. Lord Setter (or Lord Red, as
the neighborhood knows him) and canine friends - including
Jill Russell and the pugs Squekes and Suffle - as well as Fat Molly Cat
round out the delightful cast of characters in The Awful Pawful and the colorful town of Doggeroo.
Jack returns from a vacation only to find his friends in a terrified state. Upon investigation, he
discover that most of them have hidden themselves away, and that they
all have noses full of 10 clawmarks. All they can say is that it was “The Awful Pawful.” Jack
uncovers the real culprit and saves the neighborhood once again.
Jack’s nose map, the sketch illustrations by Janine
Dawson, Michael Bagnall's photos and the "Jack Facts" section
in which Jack evaluates his clues all contribute to the
humor and mystery-solving in The Awful Pawful .
A glossary defines the playful language that the authors
employ throughout.
Readers reach their own conclusions before the characters do… but are they right?
Only the end of the book will prove their theories!
