This is an excellent general encyclopedia that exposes young readers to a host of topics. The book is divided into ten themes or core subjects (science, nature, geography, etc.), and then two pages are devoted to each specific topic, such as “The Industrial Revolution” or “The Olympics.”
Granted, there’s a limited amount of information in each two-page spread, but the text is simple enough and the material general enough to give the children a cursory overview of the key ideas or concepts. This is just a starting point, and more detailed study or material must be gleaned from other books.
Eye-appealing photos, graphs, diagrams and illustrations pull the reader into each entry. An ideal way of using the book might be to go through it in small increments and take note of the areas that really pique your child’s interest. At that point, it will be time to find books that go into greater length about the topic.
