The stars are keeping Rabbit wide awake! Rabbit is sitting up in his bed looking at the red, green, yellow and blue stars that beautify the night sky outside his window. Wanting more than a view, Rabbit leaves his bedroom. On the lawn, Frog watches Rabbit stand on his tiptoes reaching for the yellow stars.
With every turn of the page, the stars change colors, and another stargazer joins the team. Frog uses a net to catch the green stars, while Rabbit swipes the stars out of the sky with his hands. Bird adds red stars to the basket as Rabbit and Frog look on, holding their armfuls of stars. When the stars turn blue, the three star collectors receive help from Mouse. To celebrate the completion of their nighttime fun, they
throw their stars in the air like autumn leaves. Before the new friends turn into bed, they admire all the different kinds of stars in the sky - the bright ones, the light ones, and especially the shooting star!
With an average of two to three words per page and several lively characters, this board book is perfect for babies and toddlers. Although the sky is a clear inky blue, the other colors have shading and designs. Frog has green waterdrop splotch designs on his skin, and Bird has ripples of red, orange and pink in her feathers. The animals remind me of paper dolls as each is made from paper cuttings.
This board book was adapted from the 1998 publication of I Like Stars. Margaret Wise Brown in the author of the popular books Good Night Moon and The Runaway Bunny. Joan Paley has illustrated many books for children, including Little White Duck and Moon Glowing. With plenty of open space and a clean look, this nighttime board book will be enjoyed by children for many more years to come.
