Leslie Patricelli’s board books present basic concepts through the use of vibrant and amusing illustrations reinforcing the lessons learned. In Quiet Loud , she tackles the difference between the two, using common situations that children will encounter on a regular basis. Crayons are quiet, while pot and pans are loud. Snow does not make a noise and is quiet, which is quite different from a rainstorm, which is loud. The turtles featured are quiet pets in contrast to the monkeys, which are loud.
Quiet Loud will likely elicit cheers from children as they turn the chunky pages eager to see additional examples of activities appropriate for quiet and loud responses. I suggest reading this book in a playground (where children can be loud) as opposed to a library (where children must be quiet).
