This is the story of a little mouse named Lucky, explaining to his friend Lucy why the feather he holds is so lucky. He recounts how the feather has protected and saved him on more than one occasion. As Lucky finishes telling his tale, the feather lives up to its reputation a final time, giving Lucy an example of how lucky Lucky’s feather really is.
The conversation between the two mice reflects a sweet and gentle friendship. Except for a very minor awkwardness in the wording on one of the pages, the language is easy to follow and engaging, providing elements of adventure and reflection. Lucky’s tale also introduces the element of irony, because the feather that saves Lucky numerous times belongs to a species that hunts mice.
Lucky's Little Feather , with its large format, double-page illustrations of Lucky and Lucy in soft colors, will appeal to children aged three and up. Recommended.
