If anything, the statement underestimates the sweet and inviting appeal of the story and its illustrations. The story is about a young girl, Lulu, and her love of shoes. Each page depicts one of her many pairs and provides readers with the opportunity to see and feel the different elements of each. Children will be able to fasten Lulu’s pink shoes, rub the purple sparkles on her mom’s shoes, untie her snow boots, play with the petals on her flowered flip-flops, and feel the soft felt on her bunny slippers. The grand finale comes when a large umbrella can be lifted to reveal Lulu’s all-time favorite pair of shoes, her bright, shiny boots which are perfect for the rain.
