Marco Goes to School
by Roz Chast
Grades K-2 32 pages Atheneum July 2012 Hardcover

I’ve been called “everyone’s favorite red bird,” which is kind of funny, I think. I’m not sure if that is really true, but I do know that this book about my adventures at school will make you laugh.

I was really bored, so one day my Mom decided it was time she sent me to school. “Skool? What is Skool? Can I eat it?”

I had a bunch of questions about this place. When Mom told me school was a place you went to learn things, I wasn’t overly impressed. Being a good bird, though, I went along with the plan of going to school.

This picture book is all about what happened when I got to school. You’ll see how I made some new friends, met Mrs. Peachtree (she wears strange flowered pink pants) and enlisted my classmates in helping me reach the Moon.

You’ll probably be most interested in how I tried to get to the Moon. You’ll probably get a laugh or two over what we tried to do. As you’ll see, the plan was a failure, but the class did learn a new game—block basketball!

If you liked my first book, Too Busy Marco, I think you’ll like this one too. Roz Chast is a cartoonist at the New Yorker magazine, and she draws pretty good pictures. The ones of me are definitely very cool!
