Marta and the Bicycle
by Germano Zullo, illustrated by Albertine
Ages 4-8 28 pages Kane/Miller September 2002 Hardcover

Author Germano Zullo and illustrator Albertine have created a delightfully original picture book. The simplicity allows for children of all ages to enjoy the comedy of the story while also understanding the hidden meaning behind Marta the cow’s efforts.

Marta wants to compete in a bike race, but she doesn’t know how to ride - so she does what anybody can do: she learns. She works really hard, she doesn’t give up when things are tough, and she finds success. But Marta isn't one to just go along with the herd; she loves originality. After conquering one challenge, she is eager to move on to the next.

Marta and the Bicycle is rich with comical illustrations that propel the story along to a beautiful finish in a story clearly told in both the writing and the illustrations.
