When your last name is Mayo, is it any wonder the “Donkeys” dub you “Miracle Wimp”? Tom Mayo’s peculiar take on high school and his part in it is a strangely entertaining read. Written in journalistic style, with no particular plot or storyline, the book follows Tom’s daily routine as he interjects his own brand of humor into an otherwise boring tale of high school hierarchy.
Similar in style and content to smash cult hit movie, Napoleon Dynamite, Erik P. Kraft’s book Miracle Wimp also has the makings of a surprise sensation. Combined with the author’s simple art, his interpretation of friendship, love and life is an amusing expedition into young adulthood from the lower end of the pecking order. Like Napoleon before him, this chronicle of one boys’ journey should appeal to anyone heading to the hallowed halls of an American high school.
If you’re looking for a book with all the answers, look elsewhere. But for a quick and easy read with a dash of zany humor, this cynical account might be just what you need.
