Change is often uncomfortable. Change can also open brand-new joys and opportunities if you’re willing to take the risk. This lesson is shared with charm and elegantly styled illustrations in Mr. Flux .
Mr. Flux is a bowler-hatted, monocle-wearing artist who moves into a quiet, ordinary neighborhood. Mr. Flux loves change, and he loves making the change happen. His presence turns the neighborhood upside down, specifically for young Martin who has no need or desire for change. Martin likes his old red bike and his life just how it is.
Although reluctant, Martin begins to see the wonders in the small changes Mr. Flux brings to the neighborhood. Eventually, the whole neighborhood catches on and comes to embrace something they never wanted—change.
Maclear and Stephens have constructed a fine book that is a loving ode to art and embracing wonderful new things.
