My Side of the Car
by Kate Feiffer, illustrated by Jules Feiffer
Ages 4-8 32 pages Candlewick April 2011 Hardcover

Sadie loves the zoo, but each time she and her father head there for a visit, something prevents them from reaching their destination. Whether her mom falls and needs medical attention, her dog gets lost, or her grandparents (who do not enjoy the zoo) show up for a surprise visit, situations that stand in the way of Sadie and a visit with the animals continue to materialize.

Finally, Sadie and her dad get into their car to make one last effort to reach their destination, but her Dad becomes almost immediately disappointed by the initial signs of rain. However, despite the drizzle, increased precipitation, and stormy conditions experienced by her dad, Sadie is pleased to report that - because she sees nothing on her side of the car (other than crowds of happy people heading to see the animals and watering their lawns) - there is no reason why they cannot continue on their adventure.

My Side of the Car is a unique story that will entertain little ones as they try to figure out whether it is truly possible for a storm to surface on one side of the car and inevitably root for Sadie and her father to finally get to see the animals who have been waiting for their arrival for such a long time.
