The Nick Guide to Your Best-Ever School Year

Grades 3-4 80 pages Chronicle May 2007 Paperback

Summer is the shortest semester, and when the new school year approaches there is much anxiety. Fear not, young nervous students, your friends at Nickelodeon can help you through the next grade. SpongeBob, Jimmy Neutron, and other Nick heavyweights share their insight on surviving and excelling during the school year.

Where this book fails is in its attempt to cater to every age group that might watch this cable network. Sure, the kids who watch Avatar may find the use of mnemonic devices novel, but by now they know that backpacks can get heavy and that teachers are people too.

The unnamed group of writers do a good job in bringing topics like bullying and homework organization together and presenting them by using familiar cartoon faces. But The Nick Guide won’t please all of the kids all of the time.
