Oh, Baby! Go, Baby! is a spin-off on Dr. Seuss’s ever-popular Oh, The Places You’ll Go! and has been released just in time to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the original book. It is also an adaptation of yet another Seuss adaptation, the skillfully handled Oh, Baby! The Places You’ll Go!, which is meant to read by expectant parents to their baby-to-be-born.
The latest adaptation is designed to be baby- and toddler-friendly, with tabs to pull, wheels to spin, and feathers and foil to touch and admire on every page. The images throughout this little board book are pure Seuss.
While the concept of extracting and adapting the original book into an interactive format for young children sounds promising, the execution of the final product falls far short of the potential in this project. The storyline never gets to develop fully, and the text feels truncated and awkward...a disappointing book.
There really isn’t enough here to hold the attention of either a toddler or a parent. My recommendation would be to stick with the brilliant and endlessly appealing original.
