It's Okay to Be Different
by Todd Parr
Grades preschool-2 32 pages Little Brown May 2004 Hardcover

Todd Parr continues on his winning streak of writing and illustrating inviting books with simple messages that resonate with children of all ages. In It's Okay to Be Different, he tackles the world of differences in a user-friendly tone that is both entertaining and educational. According to Parr (and his collection of stick-figure type illustrations that closely resemble the effusive work of renowned artists Keith Haring), differences are things that should be accepted and embraced.

According to Parr, it makes no difference if you are missing a tooth, have a funny nose or big ears, or need a wheelchair to get around. Further, he says, it is okay to say “no” to bad things, have invisible friends, be proud of your accomplishments, or even eat macaroni and cheese in the bath.

It's Okay to Be Different is a book that is much, much better than okay, and should earn its rightful place in a library of classic books for kids to enjoy.
