Ages 4+ 20 pages Simon Spotlight September 2011 Board book

Everyone’s favorite pig, Olivia, stars in this fun new board book imagining what it would be like to be an artist, opera singer, surfer, ballerina, and actress.

When she thinks about each career, Olivia imagines a scenario where she is performing or engaged in the activity. For example, as a painter she does a portrait of her brother and then a still life of flowers.

Each occupation involves a four-page “story,” and a set of illustrated tabs allow the reader to flip to the section (job) he or she wishes to. A plastic handle on the book’s spine means kids can easily carry the book around while on the go.

Everyone knows that Olivia has a big imagination, and when it comes to these five careers, she lets her mind soar as she thinks of possible scenarios and performances she might give. Whether it’s spinning and soaring across the stage as a dancer or catching a big wave at the beach, Olivia is up to the task!

With more pages and an extended text, this Olivia book is a little more advanced than some of its predecessors. It works nicely as a read-aloud book or for those children who can read themselves with a little help.
