Other Goose thinks she can do better than Mother Goose when it comes to writing nursery rhymes. She adds a pickle named Bill to Jack and Jill, and three birds in a sub to Rub-A-Dub-Dub.
Jack be Nimble ages as he jumps over the candlestick, and Little Boy Blue travels the world playing his tuba. Jack Horner is mentioned, but because he’s being punished - he’s not given a poem. Little Miss Muffet’s name now rhymes with the word buffet. The Little Old Lady Who Lived in a Shoe has moved to a sneaker and suffers from hearing loss because she plays her music so loud.
The book ends when the characters from the previous twenty-one nursery rhymes come together for ‘One Two Lost My Shoe.’
Spray-painted backgrounds appear behind vibrant computer generated art. Oversized and elongated features give Seibold’s characters a goofy appearance. Arrows and curls on the end of letters add pizzazz to the font used for chapter headings. All ages can enjoy the humor in these rhymes. Reluctant poetry readers will likely be entertained by this book as well.
Author and illustrator J. Otto Seibold has created many books for children. His illustrations can be found in picture books such as Olive, the Other Reindeer and Penguin Dreams. He lives in California.
