The Other Girl: A Midvale Academy Novel
by Sarah Miller
Grades 10+ 304 pages St. Martin's Griffin September 2009 Hardcover

It’s easy for Molly to keep her boyfriend, Gideon, happy - easy because she can see any thought that pops into his mind and then act on it. Molly has been living inside Gideon’s head for the last six months. (See the first installment of the Midvale Academy series, Inside the Mind of Gideon Rayburn.)

Reading Gid’s mind definitely has its advantages, but during an intimate moment when Gideon’s thoughts turn to Pilar, the hot, popular girl at Midvale, Molly breaks up with him on the spot. Now through a strange twist and a kiss between Gideon and Pilar, Molly finds herself stuck inside snotty Pilar’s mind.

Determined to use her “power” to keep Pilar and Gideon apart, Molly only finds herself pushing them closer together. As things spiral out of control and Molly’s scheming threatens to get Pilar and Gideon kicked out of school, a new alliance forms. Setting her own issues aside, Molly works to fix what she has broken. Will Midvale Academy ever be the same?

The Other Girl is the second installment in the Midvale Academy Series. If you haven’t read the first, Inside the Mind of Gideon Rayburn, don’t sweat it - both books read well on their own.

Author Sarah Miller seems somewhat of a mystery, and it is unclear if there are more books to come in the series. Either way, books penned by this writer will be worth watching for.
