Perros! Perros!/Dogs! Dogs!: A Story in English and Spanish
by Ginger Foglesong Guy, illustrated by Sharon Glick
Baby-preschool 32 pages Rayo August 2006 Hardcover

In beginning Spanish and English, this clever primer is a stimulating introduction to bilingual reading, the illustrations featuring perros (dogs) of every shape and size, large and small, clean and dirty, fast and slow.

After a night of dreaming about dogs, a young boy wakes up, looks out his bedroom window and excitedly exclaims, “Mucho perros! Lots of dogs!” He asks his father, “Adonde van? Where are they going?”

The dogs are heading through the town, every size and variety, all barking and jumping as they reach the water, where they frolic together playfully. This quirky adventure is full of surprises, as the stream of dogs crosses bridges and streets to the edge of the water.

The words are simple but descriptive, repeating phrases from page to page as the text becomes more familiar in each language. The vivid drawings serve to illustrate the meaning of the words, adjectives, verbs, nouns, all in easy-to-follow bold type.

As an introduction to bilingual text, this happy picture book is a perfect primer, geared toward a young audience who follow the perros to their secret destination.
