The new "Pooh Adore-ables" line of board books from Random House/Disney are designed for the smallest children, with simple, bold illustrations.
Winnie the Pooh, Piglet, Tigger and crew have been baby-fied - big heads, wide-set eyes, big smiles - and the busy-ness of the backgrounds pared down in the details to big blocks of colors and shapes recognizable as objects but easier on little eyes.
In No Honey!, one of the "Hummables" books geared specifically to babies, Pooh has a rumbly in his tummy,
but he is (no surprise) out of honey. He sets off to each of his friends' houses in search of that sugary golden stuff. None of his friends are home, and he finds at each house only something specific to the character who lives there. Table, chairs, paper and glue for Roo's fun crafts; carrots, a book and stew at Rabbit's place; a tidy room at Piglet's. Then - hooray! - at Owl's tree, a big honey party and all his friends.
The "Hummables" books' texts are written in a rhythmic, rhyming lilt that makes for easy sing-song reading,
great for infants to listen to on their
incredible road to language development. A fun cut-out cover in the shape of a honey pot provides a nice bit of tactile stimulation for exploring fingers. Along with the ultra-cute and effective illustrations, this is another winning version of Pooh certain to win over very young hearts.
