Red Sled
by Lita Judge
Ages 2-5 40 pages Atheneum November 2011 Hardcover

Oh goodness—here’s what happens when some forest critters decide to “borrow” a little child’s sled for some nighttime fun. No text accompanies Lita Judge’s wonderful illustrations, but as you will see, words aren’t really necessary in this instance.

Judge utilizes a few sound effects such as Wheeeeee, Alley-oop and Fluoomp…ft to accompaniment the animals’ antics, but that’s it. No problem, though—your child will certainly get the idea that this crew of forest revelers is having a very good time sliding down the white hillsides in their snow-covered neighborhood.

If you feel a need for some dialogue, let your child use his or her imagination to supply it. It might be a lot of fun to see what storyline emerges!
