Rules of the Wild: An Unruly Book of Manners is a charmingly written and illustrated book that explores human behavior by contrasting it with what is permissible for animals. Specifically, the book states “if your Mom had a tail or your father a mane, the rules of your house might not be such a pain.”
It goes on point out that if you were a pig, you could eat whatever you wanted, and if you were a bat, you would be permitted to stay up all night. Along these same lines, dolphins can splash, elephants can squirt, cows can chew with their mouths open, and bears can sleep all winter long.
The rules of crafting appealing books for children favor smart rhyming verse, lively illustrations, and the teaching of a lesson, and Rules of the Wild follows each one to perfection.
