*Shhh! This Book is Sleeping* by Cedric Ramadier, illustrated by Vincent Bourgeau
Shhh! This Book is Sleeping
by Cedric Ramadier, illustrated by Vincent Bourgeau
Ages 1-4 20 pages Random House January 2016 Board book

When you take your toddler or preschooler to bed, have them hold this book in their hands. Then have them do what the pink mouse in the book says.

The goal is to put the book (and your child) to sleep. Following along with bedtime routines familiar to children, the book is asked questions such as “Did you brush your teeth” and “Did you go pee-pee?” After the book is read a story (which is really this book), the book is tucked in under a blanket and hugged and kissed by the child.

The book appears as a blue face in the story. As he gets tired, his eyes close and the pages become a darker shade of blue. When the book is closed, the mouse says good night and reminds the child to close the book very gently.

Children can mimic the mouse’s actions if they are too young to understand the meaning of a word (such as hug or shhh) and practice treating a book gently because of the face so prominent on the cover and on the pages. This would be the kind of book that I would enjoy book-talking at a storytime.
