An upside-down book - two stories in one - What Sisters Do Best/What Brothers Do Best celebrates the joy of the many activities brothers and sisters can do together.
Featuring sibling pairs of different animals (bears, lions, mice, dogs, etc.), simple sentences describe things older sisters and brothers can do with their younger sibling – help climb a tree, teach a favorite sport, play pretend, etc.
Half of the book features an older sister, flip it over and the other half of the book features an older brother. The text is the same in each book, but the pictures are different, showing alternative ways of doing the same activity. Meeting together in the middle is a wonderful collection of scenes focusing on the love shared by brothers and sisters.
The easy-to-read text is complemented by direct picture clues, perfect for a pre-reader beginning word recognition and simple memorization. Lynn Munsinger’s colorful illustrations of adorable animals dressed in clothes are irresistible as each scene depicts a creative scene wherein the siblings are obviously enjoying their time together.
Although the story featuring the older brother features more physical activity/adventure, for the most part, the activities are not stereotyped and show brothers and sisters having fun in many unique ways. Highly recommended.
