Louise knew, just knew, that it wasn’t going to be an easy day, even before the day had begun. Her eyes were itchy, her throat was wheezy, and her nose was very, very sneezy.
Her uncontrollable sneezing causes the oatmeal to splatter, and school papers to scatter. There’s yet more mayhem to come after school - her loud sneezing causes bumbles, stumbles and trips in ballet class, sends grandma’s peas bouncing wildly out of the bowl at dinner, and even causes a minor commotion during the reading of a bedtime story.
All day long, people admonish her: “Geez, Louise! Cover your mouth please!” in stern and not-so-friendly tones. Louise thinks the sneezing isn’t really her fault - life isn’t easy when you’re allergic to “oatmeal, spelling tests, pirouettes, peas, and worst of all, [a] little brother!” But when Mommy and Daddy come to tuck her in for the night, Louise feels a whole lot better - she knows, just knows, that tomorrow will be a much better day.
This cute little book by Irene Breznak will appeal to children (especially sneezy ones) with its rhythmic and bouncy text. Janet Pedersen’s cartoon-like watercolor and pen drawings are funny and adorable.
