Re-released in board book format, this story by Il Sung Na (A Book of Sleep, Hide and Seek) describes what nine different animals do when it’s winter.
The rabbit on each page watches as birds fly south, bears hibernate, and squirrels gather acorns. The author references color change with the rabbit, adjustments in activity levels with the crocodiles and mice, and a change in location with the turtles.
The illustrations contain a bevy of swirling patterns and color splotches. These overlapping textures help camouflage the rabbit that appears on every double-page spread. The new cover illustration shows a close-up of a young snow-covered rabbit.
This story starts with winter scenery but segues into spring with the appearance of green grass, budding leaves and blooming flowers.
