A cute little mouse wants to make his snowball larger, so he pushes it up a steep snowy hill. The animals standing in his way help him roll the snowball to the top. They don’t stay there for too long, though. Soon the snowball rolls down the other side of the hill, taking the animals with it.
The story ends with a big splat which frees the animals from the gigantic snowball. “Now what?” they ask. When they see parts of their belongings sitting in the huge pile of snow that was once their snowball, they build a snowman that wears a scarf and hat and carries a cane and backpack. The bunny they meet on the way down contributes the carrot for the snowman’s nose.
There are seven die-cut holes in this board book. They get increasingly bigger as the snowball gets bigger. This builds anticipation. The snowball gets so big it barely fits on the page. Something has to happen. Every double-page spread has one short sentence which adds to the tension, “Almost there…”
This is a fun story about new friends working together. I would read it to babies, toddlers, and preschoolers.
