To make a snowcat, Splat the cat heads outside with Seymour the mouse to find the best snow.
Seymour pulls Splat around on a sled while they look for a suitable place. They find it (with their face) when they crash into a pile of snow at the bottom of a tobogganing hill. When the two friends are pelted with snowballs by Spike (the cat bully), a snowball fight ends when Spike becomes the snowcat.
Children can help read this book by lifting up the flaps that appear on every page and by providing the many sound effects (splat, rumble, whee, sploosh). The humorous illustrations include a robin and his suitcase (waiting to fly south), silly stuffed bird toys, and exaggerated actions.
Splat the Cat books are popular with the children at our library, and I look forward to reading this one aloud during a winter storytime.
