Spot the Animals: A Lift-the-Flap Book of Colors
by American Museum of Natural History, illustrated by Steve Jenkins
Grades PreK-K 16 pages Sterling October 2012 Board book

Six animals are hiding in their natural habitats on the pages of this board book.

Peeking through the flaps—which resemble rocks, leaves, or coral—are small glimpses of the animal. Each corresponds to a color in the rainbow (Yellow Tang, Emerald Tree Boa, Little Blue Penguin). One to three facts about the animals appear on the verso of each multicolored double-page spread.

The question-and-answer format (Can you spot the…? Who is it? It’s a…) is consistent throughout the book. The background colors and text (except in one instance) match the color of the animal hidden behind the flap.

Pair Spot the Animals: A Lift-the-Flap Book of Colors with the American Museum of Natural History’s other book, 1-2-3 Dinosaurs Bite! A Prehistoric Counting Book (2012).
