*Stampy's Lovely Book* by Joseph Garrett
Stampy's Lovely Book
by Joseph Garrett
Ages 6-12 72 pages Random House January 2016 Hardcover

Stampy, the orange and white cat, is very popular on YouTube with his videos about the game Minecraft. The Lovely Book reads like a scrapbook of Stampy’s life.

The book begins with a personal greeting to his fans and a page of basic facts (likes/dislikes, favorite games and sayings). The following pages show information in different kinds of pictorial graphs; then we are introduced to five of Stampy’s friends (who are animals and people).

The book showcases labeled fan art and presents, and fun activities such as “Lost Dogs Search and Find”, “Would you Rather”, and two pages of “Painful Puns”. Stampy encourages time away from the computer with a few boredom challenges and activities that can be completed in the book (a cake maze and a Spot the Difference game).

With every page or two, Garrett’s book will have the reader doing something fun. There are comics to read, a drawing and quiz to try, and a Stampy cake to bake.

Most of the illustrations in the book resemble Minecraft pixel art, with colorful backgrounds and different typefaces. This book can be enjoyed by someone not familiar with Minecraft or Stampy because it contains a variety of short activities children like doing. This would be great entertainment for children on a long drive.
