The Story of Christmas
by Pamela Dalton
Ages 3+ 32 pages Chronicle November 2011 Hardcover

Pamela Dalton has exquisitely illustrated the story of the nativity of Jesus in a picture book format for readers of all ages.

The Story of Christmas begins with the visit of the angel Gabriel to Mary, announcing that she shall become the mother of the Savior. It continues with Mary and Joseph’s journey to Bethlehem, the birth of Jesus, the angel’s visit to the shepherds and the three kings, and finally Jesus as a child in Egypt and the return to Nazareth following Herod’s death.

Pamela Dalton’s cut-paper illustrations—“scherenschnitte”—pay honorable tribute to this magnificent story which ultimately changed the world. Utilizing rich colors, contrasting with a black background, each tree, person, animal, etc. is lovingly painted, brilliantly cut out, and thoughtfully laid out to create breathtaking scenes which capture the wonder of each moment of the story.

Amid all the Christmas picture book choices, it is so important for children of all faiths to know and understand the story of the first Christmas. Regardless of your faith, this is a story which every child should know, and Pamela Dalton’s illustrations make this particular rendition exceptional.
