Stuff and Nonsense is an incredibly clever touch-and-feel pop-up book with a sweet ending that will delight readers of all ages. In it, an entire team of mice, depicted on the pop-up illustrations that simulate movement through the pages, are hard at work collecting all sorts of materials that readers will be able to see and touch.
A number of different textures are represented, including scraps that are furry and velvety, and wooly and wavy. Other materials are scratchy and bumpy, and there is another that is wrinkly. The different designs on the collected materials are just as diverse, including some materials with spots, some that are checkered, and others that have stripes.
Children’s books are appealing for a number of reasons. Some have an endearing story, some have materials for little ones to touch and feel, and others have pop-up illustrations that jump off the page. Stuff and Nonsense ambitiously attempts to include all three, and the result is this must-have book that has something for everyone. The book should achieve widespread popularity and make readers eager to see what creative brilliance author David Pelham will share in his future projects.
