Fancy Nancy serves up another divine treat for her fans, this time in the form of an education about fancy words which when used in a sentence, she says, is like “adding sprinkles to vanilla ice cream.” In The Aliens Are Coming! , readers learn words such as accessories for A and dapper for D. F is for fiasco (which she defines as a big flop), followed by L for lavender (which is fancy for light purple).
The rhyming text has a sing-song quality that will have parents and kids alike chanting about aliens, and the brightly colorful and highly imaginative illustrations pop off the page. These are not aliens to be feared, though - it ends up being the reader who heroically scares them back into space where they belong.
A truly delightful book for kids under the age of eight (and the parents who love to read to them!), The Aliens Are Coming! is like a song you can’t get out of your head once you’ve heard it.
