Was Ted Williams the greatest hitter to ever live? The debate continues. After your readers have finished this short biography of the Boston Red Sox slugger, they can enter the fray.
Unquestionably, Williams was one of a handful of exceptional players. Not only his exploits on the field but also away from the ballpark during both World War II and the Korean War are chronicled in this picture book.
The San Diego native certainly had a remarkable career as his stats suggest, and Matt Tavares presents a solid case for the “Greatest Hitter” designation. Still, those who follow other teams and players such as Willie Mays, Mickey Mantle and Babe Ruth will probably cast their votes for a different slugger.
Regardless of your team affiliation, this is an excellent and entertaining book that young baseball fans will enjoy reading and, perhaps, arguing about!
