Tiptoe Joe
by Ginger Foglesong Gibson, illustrated by Laura Rankin
Ages 4-8 32 pages Greenwillow April 2013 Hardcover

A very big and affectionate brown bear has a secret, and a lot of friends he wants to tell it to. He takes his buddies--a clop clop donkey, a thump thump rabbit, a flap flap turkey, a thud thud moose, a swish swish owl, and a slap slap beaver--on an adventure through the forest. Clad in his red tennis shoes, Tiptoe Joe brings them along on a fun and fanciful journey.

This a fun book for young readers 4 -8 years old. The watercolor illustrations depict the animals swimming and jumping and running and flying. The text can be read as a call-and-response and should prove valuable in teaching young readers not only how to recognize and read words but the way in which they create their own linguistic sort of rhythm within a line.
