Together
by Jane Simmons
Baby - preschool 32 pages Knopf May 2007 Hardcover

Together is a delightful story of the ups and downs of having a best friend from author Jane Simmons, who also wrote the “Daisy the Duck” picture book series.

Simmons this time around introduces kids to two adorable dogs, big Mousse and little Nut, who become friends one rainy day. Soon, they are doing everything together, until they start to notice little differences. And when those differences become more pronounced, their friendship falls apart…until they learn a valuable life lesson about commitment and sticking it out (boy, this might be a good book for married couples, too!).

Simmons, who also illustrated this endearing book, offers kids two lovable characters who learn to celebrate their commonalities as well as their differences. Mousse and Nut are just too cute, and I can see many more books featuring these two crazy canines to come, giving kids a chance to learn about life even as they are being entertained.

Friendship can be hard work, but as Mousse and Nut find out, it is well worth the effort.
