Authors are often advised to to serve a specific niche, and this is exactly what Mindy Avra Portnoy does in her children’s book A Tale of Two Seders .
The parents of a little Jewish girl are divorcing, and she is forced to face a number of unfamiliar issues as the entire family moves through the transition. Holidays such as Passover are particularly challenging, since arrangements have to be made to split her time between her parents, who may not always want to celebrate together.
A Tale of Two Seders is a great way to initiate a discussion with the children of divorcing Jewish parents who have concerns about how this change will impact their daily lives. It sends an uplifting message that there are ways for two parents to parent together yet also move forward with their separate lives.
