I Want a Dog! is an adorable lift-the-flap book about a little girl putting forth her case as to why her parents should allow her to get a new pet.
First, a tab can be pulled down to reveal the answer she hopes to receive in response to her request, and a turning wheel illustrates how she plans to clean up after him. The interaction continues as the little girl explains how they will entertain each other by playing games such as chess, and he will provide valuable assistance with household chores.
The little girl also makes it clear that her decision to request a dog is not a rash decision but instead what she has determined to be the most appropriate choice. For example, she says she’s not asking for a hippo (which can be extended to a height well beyond that of the book) because it would be too large, or a pig (which little readers can feed through the spinning of a dial) because he would likely each too much food.
I Want a Dog! is an interactive book that represents a little girl’s use of her creativity and imagination to try to convince her parents to buy her a new pet. This sweet story will resonate with parents and little ones who have had (or expect to have) a similar conversation.
