Baby-preschool 28 pages Red Wagon Books August 2007 Board book

Whoever You Are presents a basic lesson concerning the idea that regardless of our differences, we are really the same.

The simple board book starts by highlighting the diversity of children living in our global community. It mentions a wide range of traits ranging from the color of our skin to the homes where we live to the languages we speak. From there it, points out the powerful similarities, such as the common feelings of joy, love and pain, as well as our ability to smile.

Although Whoever You Are tackles an important theme, there is nothing that separates it from the countless other books that cover the same subject. While I do not have a particular criticism of the text or the illustrations, I also do not have particular praise for it. Unfortunately, with the crowded market for children’s books, this may very well be a fatal flaw.
