This “Level Pre-1” early reader is a funny story about what can happen when one misreads a note.
Christopher Robin leaves a note on his door that says, “Gon Out Bizy Back Soon!” When Winnie the Pooh drops by to see Christopher, he finds the note. Since the bear can’t read, he asks Owl to read it. Unfortunately, Owl misreads the note and tells Pooh that a “backson” has got Christopher Robin.
“What’s a ‘backson’?” asks Pooh. Owl tells him that it is a terrible monster that puts holes in socks, scribbles in books, and stops clocks.
Rabbit then decides that he, Pooh, and the rest of Christopher Robin’s friends must devise a plan to rescue the boy from the Backson. The animals set a deep pit to capture the monster but end up falling into it themselves.
The only one who doesn’t fall into the hole is Piglet. The little pig has to rescue his friends now—and fortunately, with Christopher Robin’s help, he is able to do so.
A funny story with some interesting twists, Forever Friends employs word repetition, short, simple sentences and picture reading to help the beginning reader start mastering the text.
Start with having your youngster supply the correct word when he or she sees the small mug shots of Christopher, Pooh, Owl and Piglet worked into the text. Then you can graduate to harder words like shovel, wagon and note.
