Creativity and imagination fill each page of this collection of colorful scenarios that play with words and numbers.
Author Amy Krouse Rosenthal writes humorous scenarios featuring descriptions and dialogue. But the words aren’t just words—most of them contain sounds that sound like numbers.
The words that contain number sounds appear with the numbers in the word. For example, the description of a child learning to play an instrument reads: “She’s learning a 2ne on a 2ba.” When a young child is carried up into the air by a big balloon, the balloon vendor apologizes to the mother, explaining, “I may have overinfl8ed.”
The double-paged spreads boast clean, simple illustrations that allow most of the attention to be focused on the play on words and numbers. The illustrations are, however, quite appealing, with animated faces and primary colors to highlight the funny dialogue.
The fresh concept and format of the book offers a wide range of words that will allow for some easy reading by young readers. There is a sense of adventure and fun as the readers, especially ones who have a higher reading level, discover the words and realize just how many words contain sounds of numbers.
Wumbers is a 1derfully cre8tive read for children ages 6 to 9 years. Highly recommended.
