Grades 1-3 32 pages RH Disney May 2007 Paperback

Remy is a young rat whose passion for fine dining has brought him to Paris. Here he hopes to dine not on rotting garbage but on fine food, perhaps even that cooked by the master chef Gusteau himself.

One day, Remy accidentally ends up in Gusteau’s restaurant kitchen, where he comes across Linguini, a young chef who is in the process of making some very bad soup. Remy quickly fixes the soup, while making sure to stay out of the sight - surely no chef would welcome a rat in his restaurant!

Linguini and Remy eventually strike up a friendship. Over time, Linguini’s fame grows as Remy increasingly cooks on his behalf, mainly by hiding in Linguini’s chef’s hat and directing him. Now the famous food critic Ego himself has come to taste the food - will he still find it delicious once he learns that the chef is a rat?

Ratatouille: The Big Cheese is a Step 2 Step-Into-Reading book taken from the animated movie from Disney/Pixar. It’s difficult for a book such as this to capture all the charm of this movie, but children will have a fun time learning about Remy’s adventures in this book all the same. The simple text will help build reading skills (and perhaps even an appreciation for the art of cooking) in early readers.
